Vocabulary
General Words/Terms
- LGBT/LGBTQIA+
- An acronym that stants for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Agender/Asexual/Aromantic, and the plus is added to include all identities not listed. Sometimes 2S is also added at the begining to include those who are Two Spirit.
- Queer
- A term that, as well as being an Identity of its own, can act as an umbrella term or a stand in for the acronym. Queer used to be used as a slur, so not everyone likes it used for themself. If someone asks you not to call them queer, respect that.
- Umbrella Term
- A term that refers to a label that other labels can fall under, such as Transgender or Nonbinary.
Words/Terms for Gender and Sex
- Sex
- In this context, sex is what is assigned to you when you are born based on your external genetal structure. This is typically Male/Female, though those who are Intersex don't always fit neatly into those box's, though they may still be assigned one or the other, even if it doesn't fit perfectly.
- Asigned Sex At Birth (ASAB/AFAB/AMAB)
- Terms coined by the Intersex commuity that describe what they were assigned at birth to find those with similar experiances. The online Transgender community has tried to take these terms, though it has been asked for them to stop.
- Endosex/Perisex
- Terms to describe someone who isn't Intersex.
- Gender Identity
- An indeviduals internal sense of self. It may not always match with their sex, and it may not fit within the genders expected by society typically.
- Gender Expression
- The way someone desides to express their gender via how they dress or act. Ones gender identity and gender expression don't have to match.
- Gender Quality
- A term that describes the way a gender identity leans, typically that can be Masculine, Feminine, or Androgynous, though there are many other gender qualities.
- Cisgender
- An indevidual who's gender identity matches with their sex.
- Transgender
- An indeviduals who's gender identity does not match with their sex.
Attraction Words/Terms
- Split Attraction Model
- A model of identity that seperates sexual and romantic attraction, originaly made for the Asexual and Aromantic communities, though it can be used by anyone.
- Sexuality
- A word to describe the way someone feels sexual attraction.
- Romantic Orientation
- A word to describe the way someone feels romantic attraction.
- Allosexual
- A term to describe someone who feels sexual attraction or who isn't Asexual.
- Alloromantic
- A term to describe someone who feels romantic attraction or who isn't Aromantic.
- Monosexual
- A term to describe someone who feels sexual attraction to a single gender.
- Multisexual
- A term to describe someone who feels sexual attraction to more than one gender.
- Monoromantic
- A term to describe someone who feels romantic attraction to a single gender.
- Multiromantic
- A term to describe someone who feels romantic attraction to more than one gender.
